Real Name: Ulysses X. Lugman
First Appearance: Captain America Volume 1 #324
Hair: White
Weight: 1,068 lbs.

Story:Ulysses Lugman, a.k.a. the Slug, is a Miami-based crime lord who owns a number of legitimate businesses which front his drug trafficking trade.  His origins are unknown to a large extent, though there is some evidence that he began his criminal career as a leader of a small-time gang.  Through the use of his gifted level of intelligence, he was able to develop a successful organization which rapidly grew in size and power.

The Slug remained outside of the law on his private yacht, the Nowhere Fast, partying and leading a high-stepping life of crime and debauchery. His operations came to the attention of Nomad, a super hero associated with Captain America. Nomad was out to locate the brother of a woman with whom he was romantically involved. Learning that her brother was working for the Slug, Nomad worked his way to the top of the Slug's criminal organization, and was finally introduced to Lugman. After being betrayed by the woman's brother, Nomad was rescued by Captain America and they returned to the Nowhere Fast. Nomad started a fire which ultimately destroyed the Slug's yacht and assumed the Slug had drowned.  However, the Slug survived using a personal flotation device.

The Slug was later involved in a joint venture with the Kingpin of Crime in which the two agreed to help one-another counter the effects of the High Evolutionary and his attempts to cleanse humanity of impurities such as the drug trade.  Spider Man, the Man Thing and Poison broke up the High Evolutionary's plans, so the alliance was short-lived, and the Slug once again concentrated on his own ventures.

The Slug was eventually confronted by Poison, and while her power was immense, she allowed him to live.  He secretly swore to make her pay, but the vendetta was either forgotten, or he did not have the means to harm a being of her supernatural might.

The Slug next made his appearance at the underworld proceedings wherein the empire of the fallen Kingpin was being divided amongst the biggest players in the largest crime syndicates.  The Slug was one of the least vocal about his treatment during these proceedings, and spent most of his time bankrupting a number of Vegas's all-you-can-eat establishments.  When Nomad, Daredevil and the Punisher arrived to break up the proceedings, the Slug escaped in a special semi.  He was intercepted on his way out of Vegas, but again survived his encounter with Nomad and the Punisher.

Later, the Slug was again hunted by Nomad, who was programmed to kill him by the evil psychiatrist Dr. Faustus.  Captain America saved the Slug's life once again, and the Slug escaped during their melee.  He was shot out of the air by Faustus's other mercenaries, and later rescued by his own.

The Slug seemingly never stopped to consider his recurrent run-ins with super hero types, and so never adjusted his offensive tactics accordingly. His defensive measures generally included hired hit men of a garden variety, as well as personal bodyguards who were lightly armed.  In old mob fashion, he most often sent hired muscle to handle situations, which the heroes found to be of little challenge.

The Slug is currently incarcerated in a prison for super villains nicknamed "the Raft," and has attempted escape in at least one instance during a mass breakout.

Unusual Features: The Slug is obese to the point of immobility. However, it has been suggested he is a mutant, since he continues to live at a size that would be fatal to most normal humans. He also wears sunglasses a majority of the time, as his eyes are extremely light-sensitive.

Defining Quote:"I;ll admit I've got my share of problems... like where's the ketchup at? URRP!" Daredevil #308

Paraphernalia: The Slug is able to move about through the use of his own special heavy-duty wheelchair which runs on tank treads.  His early model included flotation systems, and one of his later models included rocket propulsion systems for escape flight.  Both models were controlled by remote control, which could be a hindrance if the Slug was attacked hand-to-hand by an opponent.
