From Petty Crooks to Living Planets, I like a diverse rogue's gallery. Some of my favorites are showcased here.

armadillo.jpg

The Armadillo, a minor Captain America foe, and Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation Champion. I liked him during his classic look in Cap, and always felt sorry for the man who became a monster to save his wife, only to find her cheating on him. I really hated what they did to his look in the Thunderbolts.

asp.jpg

Asp, one of my favorite members of the villainous Serpent Society, she always struck me as exotic looking and beautiful in a Marvel Universe full of beautiful heroines. When she was backing up Diamondback during her spat with the Society, I figured she was at least a loyal friend, and that made her more than the common villain.

beetle2.jpg

The classic Beetle. I personally liked this costume the best, with the funky magno-gripper suction cups and rigid wings. I only recently got his first and second appearances. It seems he went to jail with a pure green costume in Strange Tales 123, and came out with a costume containing purple highlights in Amazing Spider-Man 21.

blackknight.jpg

The Black Knight, a thorn in the side of Giant Man and the Wasp, and later Iron Man. The fact that the knight had such a funky power lance and a flying horse, and still threatened the likes of the Avengers made him a uniquely classic Marvel Villain. It's too bad he's dead.

crimsondynamo.jpg

The first Crimson Dynamo, the man behind the moniker, the bombastic Bolshevik scientist Anton Vanko. I loved his communist red armor, and the fact that he made a tank chase then-Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev across his laboratory. Of course he was only demonstrating his power, and made the tank explode with a single button. A villain long dead, though many men have taken up the mantle over the years.

ego.jpg

Ego the Living Planet, a world unto himself. Whether battling Thor, Rom, the Silver Surfer or the Fantastic Four, Ego always managed to impress thanks to his massive size alone. You're not going to get away with punching this thing in the face, you're dealing with a threat that's planetary in scale!

greygargoyle.jpg

The Grey Gargoyle, foe of Thor and later Iron Man. If you need to get rid of pigeons on your buildings, I'll wager this guy has a grudge and will do the job for free. I once saw him on the Marvel Action Hour Iron Man series, and I had to laugh, because he managed to "stone" himself on the leg. I'm not sure if this could actually happen in real Marvel continuity, but for the cartoon's sake...

juggernaut.jpg

The Unstoppable Juggernaut, Professor X's stepbrother from hell. It used to take a whole team to stop this guy, but Marvel weakened him and made him heroic for a while. I'll always see him as the spiteful powerhouse whose only weakness was his mind once his foes got his helmet off.

kingcobra.jpg

While he was impressive as the leader of the Serpent Society, I gained my greatest respect for the King Cobra not when he was battling Captain America or Spider-Man, but the evil Mr. Hyde in some Cap backup stories. The King Cobra really showed he could handle the big leagues and be the kind of villain even villains had to respect.

plantman.jpg

The Plantman, villain of the gardens and parks of the world! Mr. Smithers made his debut in Strange Tales opposite the Human Torch, and Dick Ayers' art made him look kind of like the Shadow in green. His later cowled look made me a fan, and his plant gun was not that bad of an idea.

porcupine.jpg

The pugnacious Porcupine, the villain Luke Cage deemed a "walking haystack." Alex Gentry never got the respect he deserved considering his advanced porcupine armor probably would have been useful in many day to day applications. Think: Forest Service, no bear or cougar would mess with you. Riot Control: think anybody is gonna wanna tangle with a guy in a spiky suit? Gentry's last suit was a more streamlined design, but I prefer his classic look shown here. Unfortunately, the Porcupine is no longer with us, having died helping Captain America capture Serpent Society members. Truly an old line villain never given his due.

scorpion.jpg

The Scorpion, one of Spider-Man's lasting foes. Mack Gargan has had a number of modifications to his suit over the years, wearing tails that fire acid, lasers, and plain bludgeons. One of my favorites when it came to the Spider-Man Friend or Foe game, the Scorpion has had his fingers in many dirty deals over the years.

stiltman.jpg

Stiltman, one of Daredevil's longtime foes. I liked his gimmick, though just about anybody's grandma could have beaten him. I mean, he had some weapons, like rocket launchers and the like, but Daredevil rarely had trouble trashing him. But he was the definition of a small-timer in the villain world, and now it seems he's been offed by the Punisher no less. Rest in peace Stilty.

titanium.jpg

The Titanium Man has been dead for a long time, and then it seems they brought him back to life, but he's probably dead again. I don't really know that much about him as much as I like his armor. He was another Communist foe for Iron Man back in the 60's, but his armor was never the superior. He seemed imposing, though.

toad.jpg

The Toad was always Magneto's footstool, but never more so than when be debuted as part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the X Men's early mags. He was the hunchback to Magneto's Dr. Frankenstein, subservient and groveling to a fault. His look has changed a lot over the years, but my favorite will always be his most toad-like from his early days.

whirlwind.jpg

Whirlwind began his villainous career as the Human Top, and it was Giant Man and the Wasp on his trail for most of his early career. He's clashed with the Avengers, Captain America, and nearly every other hero out there in his quest to become a respected super villain. Too bad for Whirly, he hasn't been too successful. He's changed his costume several times, but the improvements still never manage to compensate for his giant ego when he goes into battle. He remains, to my knowledge, a small-timer on a power trip.

whiterabbit.jpg

The White Rabbit was a spoiled little rich girl who loved Alice in Wonderland. So, what better way to get her kicks when she became bored with her easy lifestyle than to create her own personal Wonderland headquarters and set herself up as the White Rabbit. She hired the Walrus, a villain with the proportionate speed, strength and other such attributes of a Walrus, and went on a crime spree. She clashed with Spider Man and Frog Man, and was soundly trounced on all occasions. What rich people will do to pass the time, eh?
